First off – the DVD: It’s a letterbox transfer of pristine fresh print that has been digitally restored (sometimes frame by frame) support to its modern condition. Comic Girl hasn’t looked this fine in thirty years – so if you’ve only seen it on VHS or TV, you’re in for a visual treat. I saw the restored print on a sizable cloak this past drop, and acquire me, this transfer does it justice. In addition they have included the pre-show and intermission music as well. The additional documentary material is nothing to write home about. But I assume whoever did the DVD menu deserves kudos for styling it like the Original Amsterdam theater marquee from the first shot of the movie, with highlights from the film playing in the background. Very appropriate and very clever.

Funny Girl is A.) the musical biography of comedienne-singer Fanny Brice, and B.) the Oscar-winning film debut of 26 year veteran Barbra Streisand. As theatrical history lesson it’s dazzling flawed – (Arnstein was Brice’s *second* husband, for example) . The Streisand – Brice connection is strong, however. Fanny, like Barbra, wore her Jewishness as a badge of honor – in difference to most Jewish performers of the day, who tried to blend in as grand as possible. As a matter of fact, the “You Are Woman, I Am Man” seduction scene plays like a Brice “Follies” sketch.
And as a star vehicle for Striesand, it’s a winner. “I’m the Greatest Star” at the beginning of the narrate is an electrifying jolt of raw, pure talent. At the raze of them film when she falters on the opening words of “My Man”, you’ll remember what it feels like to explore your beloved jog out of your life.

William Wyer seems to be aware that he’s launching a unique star. The plan he introduces Barbra – that long chase with her succor to the camera in the leopard coat – ending with the first teasing seek of her face in the mirror – “Hello, delicate.” It was a closeup that many film folk were obvious would have audiences recoiling in scare. Certainly dreary looking Barbra couldn’t develop it as a movie star. Well, it’s not news anymore but it turns out that Barbra photographs beautifully. Even Barbra-hater Rex Reed had to admit at the time, “It took the combined efforts of God knows how many people to do it, but I’ll be damned if they haven’t made her splendid!”
Omar Sharif plays opposite Barbra, and he holds up his slay of the film nicely, no miniature feat when you assume that the script gives him microscopic to do and the entire property has been tailored to Streisand’s strengths. No one else registers, with the possible exception of Kay Medford as Fanny’s mother. (Awful Anne Francis sued Columbia after the film was released, claiming Streisand had her nick out of the finished film. Most of you are sitting there thinking, “Anne, who? “)
All in all, one of the better Sixties Broadway musical adaptations. (Note: Humorous Girl was nominated for Best Relate in 1968. It lost to another Columbia Pictures musical – Oliver! If you liked Amusing Girl, check out Oliver! – it’s a better movie, even though it has no star names over the title. More 1968 Oscar trivia – Barbra won for Best Actress in a tie with Kathrine Hepburn of “Lion in Winter”. In Oscar balloting there can only be a tie when there are the loyal same number of votes. Why do I mention this? Well, it objective so happens that because of her “special stature” in the industry, Barbra Streisand was admitted as a voting member of the Academy that year – with the release of unprejudiced her first film. I wonder who she voted for???? If she hadn’t been given special treatment, maybe Kate Hepburn’s name would had been the only one announced that night!)
Wow. One usually becomes a Streisand fan after seeing this movie. I certainly did. Streisand’s movie debut begs the question: “Is a nose with deviation such a crime against the nation? ” (sung by Fanny Brice’s mother in the film) . Barbra is Fanny is Barbra. When Streisand as Fanny tells Omar Shariff as Lop that he made her feel “pretty”, who can not esteem this woman?

The unique DVD includes a restored version of the film and an incredibly obvious soundtrack. Unless you saw the microscopic theatrical release this summer, then you have probably never seen Comic GIRL in its widescreen presentation. For years I had watched a former pan-and-scan VHS version. Barbra’s hilarious business of straightening her dress in the “You Are Woman” scene is completely gash out in pan-and-scan! Director William Wyler shot the film with a lot of widescreen compositions that the pan-and-scan versions always butchered. Thank you, Columbia, for this restored, widescreen DVD!
I remember watching THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT and seeing highlight clips from noted musicals. They showed “Don’t Rain On My Parade” from Amusing GIRL …Barbra on the tug boat holding that mark (“Paa-aa-raaaaaad-de”) as the camera revealed the Statue of Liberty. I was thrilled. The DVD contains a theatrical short that shows leisurely the scenes footage of how they shot the entire “Parade” number — really wonderful footage!
The movie’s second act, a bit tiresome, gives Streisand the chance to reveal her acting chops!
Buy,Download, Or Stream Funny Girl! Click Here
“My Man” at the movie’s waste features a “live” Streisand vocal as she cries on stage then triumphantly finishes. That scene won Barbra the Oscar. It is truly astounding.
I am disappointed that the DVD did not include more of the scenes I’ve always heard about but never seen. The AFI tribute (on ABC earlier this year) remains the only status you can gape scenes from the Swan Ballet number that were cleave. Also, I wish there was a Streisand commentary. Can you imagine the reflections about making this film that she could portion?
People who gape Laughable GIRL are the luckiest people in the world.

Betting On Automobile Rushing: What Are The Odds?
October 8th, 2010Gambling comes in several forms and just when you thought that betting on horse races went out of style; there comes a new fad that many people think about just as fun. Indeed, betting on folks who are included inside the automotive rushing sport has become just as well-known, if not a lot more common, than individuals betting on their horse races. But is there any benefit to betting about the drivers from the cars inside vehicle racing business? Center caps what’s even far more interesting will be the fact that a lot of similarities and differences lie between the activity of betting on horse races and automotive races. But see for yourself whether you should bet on someone involved in car rushing, as well as the benefit just may well fall your way.
Similarities with Horse Race Bets
Just as horse race betting was really well-liked just ten to twenty years ago, the betting of horse races has now turned into automotive race betting, which is no much better than simply gambling. The major similarity that automobile rushing bets have with those who bet on horse races may be the truth that there’s no simple way to know who’s going to win the race. Just as horses are too unpredictable to bet on, so are humans who have auto-raced for a long time. The driver from the automobile may possibly be having an “off” day, just as any horse can too.
One more way, however, that automobile rushing betting is similar to horse race betting stands out as the simple fact that there is a whole market out for it. Indeed, there are lots of folks who think about car rushing to be even far more essential than horse race, and lots of people within the exact same circles that bet on horse race are now betting about the drivers that engage in automotive racing.
Principal Difference with Car Racing
One of the best things about betting on automobile racing, nevertheless, is that humans are much more predictable than horses actually could possibly be. Just think about the NASCAR predicament: when someone arrives in first place it’s rare that the spot is at any time moved. Unless the car or truck and driver of vehicle race change in some substantial way, the same drivers on the automotive rushing market continue to keep their important status more than time. This whole scenario makes betting on vehicle race not just far more predictable, but also simpler to win.
But think about the problem of automotive rushing bets when a bet is placed on a automobile and driver who has come in 1st position consistently for the past half of a year. Even nevertheless it is very probably that the person who has come in initial location will do so again for quite a few times above, it can be also really probably that a brand new automobile and driver will quickly beat out and win above the regular winner of the car race.
In the end, is it ever really beneficial to bet on any with the auto race that goes on, or is it at any time advantageous to bet on any of the horse races that go on? Even although you’ll find people who do discover those times that they win a jackpot with the races that they bet on, a lot more usually than not they’re sorely disappointed when their automotive rushing driver has lost to their colleagues. For this reason, the odds of winning bets on car racing, even although they seem most likely, can really be slim to none!

Released originally in 1957, newly restored this year, Louis Malle’s (“Magnificent Baby”) shapely “Elevator to the Gallows” (“Ascenseur pour l’Echafaud”) is ultimately more flash than substance: many scenes were filmed with natural light (shades of Dogma95? ) and Jeanne Moreau’s penultimate scene walking down the Champs Elysees light only from the glare of the shop windows that she passes is ravishing in its simple, shaded beauty. Paris, in many ways has never looked more heavenly or more horrible.
The situation revolves around two couples: Florence Carala (Moreau), her paramour Julien (Maurice Ronet) and two juvenile delinquents, Veronique (Yori Bertin) and Louis (Georges Poujouly) …who seize Julien’s car. The quartet meet only at the conclusion of the film though their actions definitely affect each other earlier.

There is also intrigue enthralling Julien and Florence’s husband Simon Carala (Jean Wall) and their participation in war profiteering in the Indochina War (it is 1957, after all) . But the location takes a support seat to the mise en scene as Malle’s camera and the mood consume precedence over residence development and dwelling logic.
“Elevator to the Gallows” (a very witty title, by-the-way) is at times breathtakingly attractive to behold: Decae’s peevish camerawork and Miles Davis’ net and trumpet work are knowing. And as a precursor to the emotional depth, flash and profundity of what was soon to advance, “Elevator to the Gallows” is an notable allotment of the astounding puzzle that was to become the French Unusual Wave a few years hence.
French Original Wave at it’s best? Louis Malle’s first film has been considered one of the first if not the first film of the French Fresh Wave and either procedure is certainly one of the best. The memoir has Hitchcockian undertones to it; A man kills his lover’s husband and then gets trapped in the elevator while fleeing the scene. The tension mounts as the man’s lover, Jeanne Moreau and the audience wait to peep if he will dash or regain caught. Like the early films of the current wave there are many shots of and around Paris. However Malle made one of the best decisions in cinematic history by having Miles Davis do the soundtrack. Miles gives those scenes in Paris and the entire film a quality that is indescribable. For those who adore the films of Godard, Truffaut or Varda will savor this amazing portion of cinema. However this film is not available on DVD. Cannot for the life of me imagine why. Criterion please assist!!! The soundtrack on its acquire is fabulous and for jazz fans should be purchased immediately. I looked for it forever and it has finally been released on CD.

Despite several negative feedback, I gain Gravion is a tall addition to anyone’s anime collection. I actually bought this dvd on a whim and prepared for the worst. However, Gravion is qualified in their animation as well as their combination of action and comedy. It is reminiscent of the good-old Voltron days. Although in the first episodes, Gravion throws in a bunch of wacky characters, their personalities are more developed as the series continues. The subtitles are also very fair and even the english dubbing is qualified (although I win to hear it in Japanese with english subtitles) The anime style is also very excellent and I would recommend this to anyone fresh or feeble to anime. Oh also, the ‘fan service’ isn’t too rude (its bearable) . The music throughout the series is also astonishing and memorable. You won’t regret it!
This is not the best anime ever, but it is exciting for those of us who remember Voltron and Dai-Guard. Why I like it: 1-The art work and acting, 2- one of the English speaking actors does Goku in Saiyuki 3-Storyline is decent 4-And it’s FUN. I’ve only seen up to ep. 6 on Anime Network but I am planing to capture the rest. A solid three stars for me, because the characters could be a bit more developed, but the rest glorious powerful makes up for it.

What Bernstein does is exhibit you–through biographical commentary and excerpts from Mahler’s music–just what it was that made this masterful composer and conductor so obsessed with Life and Death.
Yes, allotment of it was Mahler’s being born Jewish, and portion was seeing so many of his brothers and sisters die so early in life. But Bernstein shows us how Mahler was, like most of us, striving to try to reach to terms with life–to understand why death has to arrive and deprive us of the joys of life.

To give you an understanding of how concrete, knowledgeable and specific this program is, Lenny takes a few minutes, using musical excerpts, to illustrate how there is a funeral march in each of Mahler’s nine symphonies.
If you like Mahler, and would like to understand him better, obtain a friend to ogle this with you, and learn at the feet of the master. This one is a must for those who worship Mahler or Bernstein!
Leonard Bernstein knew Mahler’s music incredibly well. Bernstein was also one of the the best musical educators to have lived. I have a deeper appreciation of Mahler and his absorb life experiences that shaped his music thanks to Lenny. Notion this first, then idea his recorded dvd performances of the Mahler symphonies. Listen and be moved. This is gargantuan music and Bernstein has made it more approachable, meaningful.

I’ve seen my fragment of documentaries, and I’ve seen a few that have dealt with disability. “Murderball” easily eclipses them all.
Too often people with disabilites earn thrust into the role of flawless inspirations, this principle has held apt across both fictional and non-fictional films alike. It was because of this trend that I approached “Murderball” with cautious optimism.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Murderball! Click Here
It was very surprising indeed when “Murderball” was in fact a genuinely uplifting and spellbinding film,a film that dared to really indicate its subjects complete with flaws. Two other disability-related documentaries I’ve seen are “Rolling” and “King Gimp” Both are probably extremely intriguing to an able-bodied audience, but speaking as someone who is in a wheelchair, some of the moments in those films were downright horrifying and depressing. For example in “Rolling”, a woman falls out of bed while dressing herself and videotapes her barely censored nude rescue by an able-bodied friend and her husband. Able-bodied audences would say, “what grit and determination” I sat there and prayed that would never happen to me. “King Gimp” profiles a supremely talented artist and parts of his legend are titillating especially to someone like myself who wants to have a career in the arts. Yet, it too wretched me because distinguished of the film concerns the subject’s unrequited savor for a female caregiver. He laments that he will never acquire anyone.
“Murderball” on the other hand avoids those pitfalls and showcases some of the nastiest, (…) ever to hit the conceal and even though I most certainly do not fit into that category and wouldn’t be caught tiring, playing the titular sport I enjoyed every slight of it. All of the people in this film have a level of independence that for the moment I can only dream of, and they are remarkable more impaired than I am in positive respects. So seeing them doing something they esteem, and quite a few of them FINDING admire is absolutely, unadulteratedly interesting. It is the first documentary I’ve seen that left me gay through the raze credits.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Murderball! Click Here
“Murderball” is ostensibly about quadriplegic wheelchair rugby and there are some truly thrilling scenes of play between archrivals the USA and Canada…to be determined.
But what “Murderball” is really about is the undeniable, unstoppable, fire-in-the-belly will to live and more specifically the drive to overcome adversity: both of spirit and of body.
Athletes Brand Zupan, Joe Soares, etc. all point to, really inhabit such a distinct, go-for-broke hold on life and living that you cannot succor but be embarrassed when you begin to reflect of your piddly problems.
One of the things a Documentary should do is recount and remark and “Murderball” has those two topics covered—no spot. But “Murderball” also gives you Hope and that is a quality to which most other films can only aspire.

This state features one episode with Joel Hodgson as host and three with Mike Nelson hosting. Two episodes are from the Comedy Central years while two are from the Sci-Fi Channel shows.
211- First Spaceship on Venus
Originally called Der Schweigende Stern and made in 1960, this international cast film about the first astronauts to land on Venus is a hoot. Filled with amazing ideas about international cooperation, yet strangely dated in its science even for when it was made, this movie’s vision of the future is fun, action-filled and nearly breaks the goofy meter! The jokes are endless, non-stop and really capable from the MST3K crew. “What’s a herring weigh? Oh, about a pound.” “Everything’s better in the crawler copter.” Impartial the endless jokes about the robot in the film, Omega, will maintain you laughing throughout. The host segments are impartial awesomely comic. When the planet has it’s “brown explosion” arrive the ruin you’ll be rolling with laughter and the jokes hover really quickly at that point. This is a sometimes overlooked, underrated classic that is too laughable to portray. I fancy it and never accumulate tired of watching it no matter how many times I eye it.

706- Laserblast
This 1978 feature comprises the final episode from Comedy Central and is an unique puny feature that received 2.5 stars from Leonard Maltin, a fact that is the source of endless astonishing wisecracks as the credits roll. Hilarious throughout in spite of the fact that everyone working on the demonstrate knew it might be their last one ever. The host segment wrap-up with sizable 2001: A Region Odyssey references is terrific.
904- Werewolf
This 1996 feature with Richard Lynch is even more ridiculous than most stories based on lycanthropy. The goofy meter breaks in the first reel of this film and never gets repaired. An archaeologist gets prick by the skeleton of a werewolf and so, predictably, becomes one. The acting, abominable foreign accents, and other low-budget silliness in this film are hammered mercilessly by MST3K. The host segment where Mike and the ‘Bots are a girl group singing a teen tragedy song, a sort of like “Leader of the Pack” type number, is absolutely killer silly.
1004- Future War
This 1997 video feature is so unpleasant it is beyond words. The immense headed Robert Zdar appears in his second film done on MST3K (the other was Soultaker) and his acting is unbiased as stiff as in the other movie. The film features awful looking rubber dinosaurs, mediocre martial arts-style action sequences, a hackneyed formulaic residence and acting so bland that calling it wooden would be a compliment! Fortunately, it has enough movement and scene changes to at least fuel a barrage of sizable jokes from MST3K. It’s fun, but only thanks to the MST3K treatment. By itself, this film would be unwatchable.
The extra features on the DVD discs include the 3-part history of MST3K and a video of the reunion panel from Comic-Con 2008. These are very informative and keen, even for long-time fans. Colossal stuff all around.
Introduction
As timing would have it, Yell! Factory’s first release of Mystery Science Theater 3000 DVDs after obtaining the rights away from Rhino Records coincided with the twentieth anniversary of MST3k’s premiere. They decided to pull out several stops for their first release (although they kept the same number — 4 — of dependable episodes per box place as Rhino had) ; besides the episodes themselves, the non-Limited Edition version contains a modern documentary detailing the rise and drop of MST3k and a recording of the twentieth anniversary reunion of the core cast/crew from the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con.
While extras are always welcome, it’s the episodes that really matter. Here I enjoy Cry! Factory has done a first-rate job. While the split between Joel and Mike hosted episodes is 3 to 1 in favor of Mike, the quality of joke telling is large and highlights MST3k at its best.
FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS
After the discovery of a message from the inhabitants of the second planet in our solar system, an international group of astronauts is sent to Venus to resolve if lustrous life has evolved. In typical 1960s sci-fi movie fashion, grand time is spent showing the viewer how the place program of the future works and how set disappear really would seem to the astronauts. This makes the middle third of the movie extremely arduous as we are treated to long sequences of weightless (with the wait on of harnesses) people and elderly scientists playing chess against robots.
I’d never seen this episode before, but I had seen the unusual film (although I’m not determined I was ever able to stop awake during the whole thing) . I found the joking from Joel and the bots to be average at best. One factor which started to annoy me after some time was a sub-plot wherein Servo’s sarcasm sequencer was residence to a higher level causing him to build increasingly repetitive sarcastic remarks about the film. I found this to be a rare mis-fire from the Best Brains.
LASERBLAST
This is the legend of a young man so improper on the social ladder that he is actually the recipient of Eddie Deezen’s bullying. However, something working in his favor is that he stumbled upon a natty part of alien technology which attaches to his arm and allows him to fire lasers at his tormentors. On the downside, the claymation dinosaur aliens are now hunting him to retrieve their lost ray gun.
LASERBLAST was the final episode made for Comedy Central, and while the crew had hopes of the note being picked up by another channel (it eventually was) they were aware that this was potentially the last movie they would have the dubious pleasure of mocking. It seems appropriate therefore that there is a greater than average number of hilarious call-back jokes to earlier experiments. The fact that there are a pretty number of recognizable faces in the cast (Eddie Deezen, Roddy McDowell, Keenan Wynn) gives the crew many additional avenues for jokes, which they duly capitalize on.
WEREWOLF
Joe “younger brother of Martin Sheen” Estevez is infected by an unknown werewolf virus. The screenplay initially makes a ample deal that this is not the standard werewolf record of legend; transformations can occur between any two species. The film promptly turns into the classic cliché of actors getting fur glued to their faces and then having them howl for hours at the moon.
This film (along with FUTURE WAR) is one of the most novel films that MST3k tackled and there are several very 1990s directorial touches. It’s not the worst movie ever, but it is humorous, goofy and totally illogical (thus becoming an instant classic episode) . The crew gets a lot of amusement over the fact that the fleshy moon appears to last for a week, and the poor guy infects people with the werewolf virus for no reason other than that he is Deplorable.
FUTURE WAR
This was an episode that I hadn’t watched — despite having a VHS recording of it — since its modern broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel. The reason for avoidance was my memory of the film was so dire that I simply couldn’t handle another viewing. My sole memory was a scene of the Jean-Claude Van Damme looking guy kickboxing Robert Z’Dar in a warehouse of empty cardboard boxes.
So watching this episode brought me two surprises. One, the riffing from the crew was distinguished better than I had remembered (my theory is that in the ensuing years I’ve become worthy more strengthened against terrible films and am therefore now able to pay more attention to the jokes) . Two, the only memory I had of the film was foul, because that scene never occurs in quite that map I had recalled.
I had completely forgotten about the unpleasant special enact dinosaurs, the mini-skirted nun, and the two colossal guys in the halfway house. You can really smell the 1990s odor coming off of this one, moral down to its flannel. Another case where a movie pitches up softballs to the crew and they hit home urge after home speed.
Extras
The novel documentary is an lively view at the history of the exhibit, although I doubt there is too noteworthy novel information that devoted fans don’t already know. However, I did fetch it informative in its telling of the program’s very early days at KTMA.
The panel from the San Diego Comic-Con was hosted by Patton Oswalt (for what reason, I am not privy) and I found it to be slightly disappointing in that the moderator talks too great and the sound quality is not always huge. Level-headed, its nice to notice them all together again and I really got a kick out of Frank Conniff asking whether the urban epic about Joe Don Baker wanting to beat up the writers of MST3k was actually just.
Stinger
So I would contemplate Bellow! Factory’s first release as a success. Even ignoring the extras, they’ve given us one solid and three tremendous episodes. They’ve already announced the next release and I can’t wait.

Joseph Mazzello (Jurassic Park, Simon Birch, The River Wild, Radio Flyer, Three Wishes, Star Kid) stars as 11-year-old Dexter in this improbable but dim anecdote of a boy who caught AIDS from a blood transfusion. Dexter is shunned by all the children in school and the neighborhood until tremulous neighbor Erik, played by Brad Renfro (The Client, Sleepers, Tom and Huck, Well-behaved Pupil, Bully) befriends him – initially as an act of rebellion! But Erik soon becomes devoted to Dexter, leading him down the Mississippi river in search of a cure. What I found most spellbinding and new about this movie is the opinion that Erik was a rebellious kid (in the opening scene he’s vandalizing his desk in school), who initially befriends Dexter because that’s exactly what everyone – peers and parents – oppose. But the result is one of the most touching friendships in the movies.
Joseph Mazzello is 11-year-old Dexter. Dexter received the HIV virus when he was very young from a blood transfusion. He now has AIDS. And his only friend is his single mother, Linda, played by Annabella Sciorra.
Brad Renfro is Erik. Erik is a kid that is sort of a loner at school. All the other kids at the school call him unpleasant names relating to homosexuals. They also drag on the other side of the hall when he’s walking by because Dexter moved in tedious his house. He has a drunk for a mother and his father lives in Recent Orleans with his 23-year-old girlfriend.
When summer vacation starts Dexter and Erik open up a friendship and they soon become best friends. They do fun things together and Dexter starts living his childhood as it should be lived. In their playing around they approach up with original ways for how to cure Dexter, but of course none of them work. One day they were at the supermarket and win a tabloid that says the cure for AIDS was found by a backwoods doctor in Recent Orleans. They remark Dexter’s mom about this but she doesn’t absorb it.

Erik’s mom Gail finds out that they two kids are playing with each other. She is misinformed about AIDS so she tells Erik that he is not to play with Dexter and that she is sending him to summer camp. So Erik got to thinking that he and Dexter could go and win the cure in Recent Orleans so he could be aloud to play with Dexter. They speed away from their home of Stillwater, Minnesota and fly down the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers to obtain the cure.
This is a fantastic narrative of fair friendship. Erik and Dexter have a friendship more noteworthy than most people will ever experience in their lifetime. “The Cure” touches you deep inside and unbiased makes you want to do something for the valid children who are suffering like Dexter.
Joseph Mazzello is tall in this movie. This actor is one in a million. Never once in this movie do you mediate of him as a child actor, you believe of him as a staunch person. I have to say the same for Brad Renfro. Mazzello is the greatest actor of all time and Renfro is up there also.

I recommend that everyone peep this movie at least once. It will appeal to everybody. It is a movie for the family despite it’s PG-13 rating; that’s honest for some abominable words. I would give this movie 100 stars if I could, but I can only give it five, and it determined earns them.

It appears Gurinder Chadha is going to suffer for a while from the “Bend It” problem: every movie she makes, people are going to tsk-tsk and say “it’s not as obedient as ‘Bend It Like Beckham.’” Well, honestly, how are you going to top that? It’s too dreadful that many people aren’t going to allow ‘Bride and Prejudice’ to stand on its acquire merits. That includes most mainstream reviewers who have generally been lukewarm about it. For many people though, ‘Bride’ will be an introduction to the Bollywood Musical genre and – for that reason alone – it’s a can’t miss. Far from being lukewarm, I was in stiches throughout most of the movie.

It’s a shimmering set-up by Chadha and husband/writing partner Paul Mayeda Berges, finding and drawing the parallels between Jane Austen’s 1813 unusual and the small-town India of today. In both cases, a woman is considered meaningless until she marries.
There are shiny Bollywood productions in blazes of color, most notably “Balle Balle (Punjabi Wedding Song),” which hits you like a thunderstorm within the first 10 minutes of the movie, and the hilarious “No Life Without Wife” (and for those of you who have seen the movie, I did Mr. Kholi’s exiguous gesture with my hand when I wrote that) .

In ‘Bride,’ you lift just away why Aishwarya Rai has transfixed a nation. With wide-set eyes that seem six inches in diameter, you behold at the place pieces that have 50 – 100+ on shroud at once and immediately dwelling her as the standout. Even for the uninitiated, it’s going to grasp five seconds or less to win her out as the star.
I also have to stamp Nitin Chandra Ganatra as Kholi. This guy is a steady comedic talent. Here he portrays the Indian off to America (“A-Merka” as he calls it) and made advantageous. Now, he’s serve to his home town to claim a bride. This guy not only gets all the large lines, he delivers them *perfectly*. “This is my crib. It’s all worthy” he says, showing guests around his house. Trust me, it’s all in the delivery. What I like about the movie is Kholi turns out to be a really edifying guy. Maybe a bit too rabid in his pursuit, but a extraordinary soul at heart.
Fans of ‘Bend It’ will impress that Anupam Kher, as Rai’s dad ‘Mr. Bakshi,’ was Jess’ dad ‘Mr. Bharma’ in ‘Beckham.’ This is one classy actor and a regal presence on the veil.
When Bollywood meets Hollywood
There’s hump to be some sparks
And for this prefer on Jane Austen
I give almost beefy marks
The narrative line is remarkable the same
Except a limited shorter
The noisy Bakshi family
Is short a Bennet daughter
Henderson’s no Colin Firth
He’s fair a exiguous bland
They could have found a better bloke
To remove Lalita’s hand
The Bingley siblings caught my eye
I’ve seen them both before
He was her Kama Sutra guy
And now he’s “Lost” no more
The ending’s changed up quite a bit
This version’s changed the terms
Singing, dancing, Indian style
And riding pachyderms
A keen, comic musical
Though not for everyone
It’s almost Pride and Prejudice
But a hundred times more fun

I am a astronomical fan of Star Wars. YEs, I am an ‘Original Fan”. And why is being an ‘Original’ fan percieved so negatively? If you are an modern Beatles fan, the newer fans ask you with reverence what it was like seeing them in concert, etc. etc. (No, I am not fortunate enough to be an ‘original’ Beatles fan. I wasn’t even born in 1964.) New Star Wars fans are called oldtimers and accused of not letting go of the past and not appreciating that times change.

Mr. Rehnquist wrote in his review “I ask, who would want to ogle mature, outdated movies in this age of advanced technology? ” Well, I hope the respond is “Many People”. My like of movies is not based on the level of special effects. Should we no longer scrutinize the colossal passe murky and white films of the past because they are ‘old and outdated’? No more Bogie and Bacall? No more Hepburn and Tracy? What about Gene Kelly? Jimmy Stewart?
The thing Mr. Lucas is forgetting is that more is not always better- in an interview when the movies first came out, he was quoted as saying that the dilemma with the Sci-Fi genre in general was that so many moviemakers forgot about the memoir. The movies ended up being built around the special effects.

Unfortunately, Mr. Lucas is adding all of these scenes and filming the newer movies (Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones) with nothing but the possibilities of these special effects in mind. He has lost the story; it had become secondary to the special effects.
I had no scrape with the celebratory scenes added at the extinguish of “Return of the Jedi” but I do have a pickle with some of the other scenes. Han shot Greedo. Greedo did not shoot first. It is ridiculous to change this. Han’s change of heart and redemption are more noteworthy when you know he was a mercenary! He was always looking out for himself. That’s how he survived! He was in it for the money, and found himself inexplicably drawn to the people of the Rebellion. That’s favorable story-telling.
The plight is that Mr. Lucas has taken the liberty of CHANGING great of the yarn with these scenes.
Mos Eisley was supposed to be a dusty, deserted town. Tatooine is on the outer rim of the galazy. It’s an unimportant, dusty, underpopulated planet. What I saw in the “Special Editions” was a thriving, well-populated town.
I would happily catch the special edition versions if I knew Lucas intended on eventually releasing the new versions on DVD as well. I’d acquire both.
We’re not trying to erase the movies you treasure. If you like the “Special Editions” Stout! I am blissful. I would never inform any of you to shut up or that your opinions were tedious and your views outdated as we have been told by Mr. Rehnquist.
We modern fans aren’t telling you unique fans that the version we grew up with should be the only one out there. Please have the courtesy of relizing we are only asking for the opportunity to lift these movies the draw we fell in savor with them.
The rumors are apt about this DVD state being a “Special Special Edition”. More changes have been made to the recent Star Wars trilogy since 1997. Recently, many images, sounds, and even a full-length copy of Return of the Jedi have been floating around on the internet, all of which confirm the changes.
Like it or not, here are some of the major alterations:
A Original Hope
1. Greedo peaceful shoots first, but it is slightly improved.
2. Jabba the Hutt is serene in the film, but has been completely redone.
3. The lightsabers have been enhanced; they are no longer white rods in obvious scenes.
The Empire Strikes Back
1. Actor Ian McDiarmid now appears as The Emperor via hologram, with current dialogue and different music.
2. Actor Temuera Morrison now provides the snort of Boba Fett.
Return of the Jedi
1. Naboo has been added to the extinguish celebration montage.
2. Actor Hayden Christensen appears as the ghost of Anakin Skywalker at the destroy of the film.
