This 1962 film is place in Hawaii and, considering that it had impartial become a residence a mere three years before, certainly captured the public’s imagination and interest. Charlton Heston is cast as a wealthy widower whose sister, Yvette Mimieux, is in fancy with a Polynesian, played by James Darren. He vehemently objects to the marriage on racial grounds, but has no dilemma having his bear runt inter-racial affair with France Nuyen. Complications arise, especially when Nuyen becomes pregnant. There is a violent incident when the future bridegroom is murdered, and his doctor brother, George Chakiris, gets into a romance with Yvette Mimieux. The whole film is about racial intolerance and it sends a strong message, which kept the record arresting. The acting was great and Yvette Mimieux, then 20 years aged, was a pleasure to gawk at. The setting was fine too; I can never acquire tired of looking at films site in Hawaii.
However, there was fair a bit too worthy melodrama for my taste and although the sage moved posthaste and was well plotted, I never felt any exact emotion for the characters. And, as in the 60s, most of the people who were supposed to be Polynesian were really Caucasian actors with darkened skin, thereby losing authenticity. Usually, this kind of casting makes me wrathful, but this time I fair relaxed and enjoyed the video, which was salubrious, dealt with a controversial theme, and was easy to follow. But we can’t query all movies to be works of art. Therefore, despite its faults, I give this film a lightweight recommendation.
Contemporary audiences may only know Charlton Heston from his vehement NRA sponsorship and his occasional cameo roles in expansive budget films and commmercials, but at one time, he was a Gigantic MAN in film. New from his role in “Ben-Hur, the film has him playing a domineering and self-serving plantation owner who makes life “hell” for his young sister played by Yvette Mimieux. Filmed three years or so after the admission of Hawaii into the Union, the film carefully treads the tense waters that exist between haole and native Hawaiians. Mimieux’s character is romantically fervent with James Darren’s Paul Kahanna, a “native” boy. The relationsip is frowned on by the hypocrital Heston who himself is having a “succor street” affair with France Nuyen. George Chakiris, as Darren’s successful doctor brother, provides abet for Mimieux after a fatal occurance.
As far as political correctness is concerned, the film is hopelessly flawed with the choice of actors playing the respective Hawaiians. Darren, an alumnus of so many teen movies, does a credible job, but, not once, is believed to be Hawaiian. Chakiris, who had previously won an Academy Award for playing a Puerto Rican in “West Side Tale” fares even less. Mimieux is adequate in the typical 60′s sex kitten role. Heston is basically playing his typical larger than-life self as “King” Howland.

The film is challenging and mighty as an early exhaust in focusing on speed relations. For that reason, it gets a recommendation. Heston fans, of which I am one, will probably like it.
One highlight is the grand pick up done by a young John Williams. As Heston rides a horse over the opening credits, the music is majestic and proper of the scope and expanse of the plantation, and hints at the epic to follow.

When this film was released in 1985, the critics were not kind, but I admire this film, and consider it’s a kindly telling of the myth of David, based on I and II Samuel, I Chronicles, and the Psalms. Though considerable of it has been compressed (David’s relationship with Bathsheba is itsy-bitsy mostly to the consequences of it for instance) and some creative license worn for residence continuity, it has a broad amount of Biblical accuracy.

Richard Gere is a suited David, and stands up well against an good international cast. He was thirty-five when this was filmed, and is about as heavenly as a human has a good to be. This is far from being a “Substantial Bible Fable” with lots of well known stars, instead it’s serious and beautifully acted, and perhaps arrived on the scene at the snide time, that it was so unappreciated two decades ago. Total running time is 114 minutes.

Richard Gere conforms gloriously to the role of David. His countenance changes and he makes for a fantastic King David. And Ian Sears made the perfect young King David. The yarn begins with the life of a lowly shepherd boy whose bravery and faith in his God ascend him to the throne of frail Israel. Telling the myth from David’s battle with Goliath, to his self-destructive treasure for Bathsheba, to the anointing of his son Solomon by the prophet Nathan to be the King Of Israel. This was a very sharp making of the life of King David. I would indulge in seeing it again.

Cave Party: Spot to a calypso beat, albeit a somewhat dated version of the genre. The friends go attend in time to the Ice Age to howl at the moon, and build some radiant useful things along the blueprint.
Race Around the World: Not obvious of the music genre here, but the friends buy section in a tough accelerate though-provoking running through the jungle, snowboarding, kayaking across the ocean and hiking across the desert.
Eureka: A couple of crusty obsolete prospectors and a couple of colorful scientists join forces to net gold and dinosaur bones in them thar hills
Castaways: To a Bossa Nova beat, three castaways regain a microscopic attend from a mysterious benefactor to survive on a deserted island.

We’re tall backyardigans fans at our house. Our 1.5-year-old son is mesmerized by the reveal, the characters are cute and very watchable, and the music is suprisingly lively and listenable even after many, many viewings.
The bonus episodes on this disc are “Eureka” and “Castaways,” both of which feature some of the best music in the entire series. The featured episodes “Cave Party” and “Accelerate Around the World” episodes are also lovely sterling, making this the best of the Backyardigans releases so far. This is the one I would recommend to anyone who wants to sample the series — unprejudiced set on “Eureka,” and try to cessation yourself from singing along!
Happily, the next DVD will feature “Surf’s Up,” which ranks up there with “Eureka” and “Castaways” in our book.
A stout thanks to Reduce Jr. and Paramount for releasing this broad series on DVD so quick.

Parasite Dolls is a space of three episodes plot in the same Mega-Tokyo that has played home for Bubblegum Crisis and the AD Police. Boomers don’t always stick to their current programming. The first episode tells of several that came from the Genom Corporation robot plants with a deadly flaw. Mega-Tokyo stories, which are often bleak, focus more on violence and action rather than yarn. As such the atmosphere is often seems as artificial as the boomers. Sort of a mechanical version of the 30′s, plot 100 or so years in the future. This goes for artwork as well as acting. This has become a style of its maintain, and Parasite Dolls is a perfect example of this eerie anime noir.
Bubblegum Crisis and its many spin-offs has long ago become one of cyberpunk’s leading anime. It has everything that most fans of this genre like, including a black metropolitan world heavily influenced by science, techno-music, and generally ancient themes. Parasite Dolls is objective that, a spin-off of a cyberpunk classic. Though in this, the ladies of Bubblegum Crisis do not earn an appearance, it does follow the other vital rogue boomer fighters, which are the AD Police.
The legend in Parasite Dolls follows a slight group of secret AD Police officers known as the Branch, who investigate the more mysterious aspects of rogue boomer crimes. Leading this group is Buzz Nikvest, a man with a disquieted past but with definite talent. With his boomer partner Kimball, the head-strong Reiko Michaelson, the Genom discover Angel, and the computer specialist Bill Myers, Buzz does everything in his power to solve boomer crimes.
Parasite Dolls is an OVA separated into three stories, and though they all follow the branch, none of the cases they solve in each episode is ever the same. It makes it a bit jarring, but not overly so. You unbiased have to adjust to the unique time frame and the modern mysteries. In episode one they must discontinuance rogue boomers that rise up during a radio display on Friday nights; episode two they must halt a boomer crusher that targets prostitute boomers, despite the fact that using boomers for prostitution is illegal; and in episode three, they must attempt to end a remarkable leader as he tries to kill all the boomers in Genom City.
Unlike the powerful lighter Bubblegum Crisis 2032-33, and the teen-aimed Tokyo 2040, Parasite Dolls is not for children. It deals with some dusky things, including prostitution, kill, and terrorism. Nudity and blood and gore are mainstays in every episode, and there are some soft-core sex scenes that add to the maturity of this anime. The DVD recommends 17+, and I must agree. But, if you’re of age and esteem the BG world, then this is a solid addition to that line. Maybe a miniature empty without Priss and the girls, but fun nonetheless.

I consider if everyone would close referring to the Wes Anderson movies as comedies we would all be better off. “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” is not about making the audience laugh. Yes, there are times you will laugh, but there are also times you will cringe, and there are other moments for unprejudiced about everything else. What kind of movie is it? It really isn’t something that can be given a single sign. Yes, there are all kinds of jokes, but aren’t they in the service of something more than simple laughs? Hearing David Bowie songs in Portuguese with an acoustic guitar is not only comical, it is kind of comely.

A simple joke is the name of Zissou’s ship. The Belefonte is clearly a play on Cousteau’s Calypso as are the crew’s red knit caps. However, some of the humor is quite tough. Believe of the scene with Jeff Goldblum’s Alistair Hennessy playing cards with his pirate captors as Steve Zissou comes in the room. What follows is silly, but grim at the same time. Then there is the outlandish draw the inside of the boat is portrayed in a cutaway station that looks spurious and is meant to seek groundless. Gape that the science room is the smallest room on this research vessel. The Sauna is considerable bigger and all the rooms given over to film production constitute most of the ship.
This movie has a lot of fun with the artificial in documentaries and films. Even the scenes of creatures of the sea are often CGI creations that don’t even try to notice genuine. Heck, even the colors in the Zissou documentaries are supersaturated and observe like they were done in different colors of ink rather than the ocean. How loyal is life when you are more concerned about getting everything shot with the just sound rather than living it? And how legitimate can a documentary be when it is cobbled together from a lot of staged shots and hosted by someone who really doesn’t have a clue about the science leisurely what is being filmed?

All of the lead actors are terrific and Bill Murray leads the plan as the weary and fading Steve Zissou. Everyone eager with Zissou has their occupy downward arc. Even the equipment is veteran and barely works. Tired helicopters are risky things.
Does the movie work? Maybe not. However, I gain so mighty to study and devour in each scene – even honest the actions of the non-speaking characters – that I really enjoyed this movie. If you want to observe something strangely sparkling, that plays with all kinds of notions of what is staunch and what is deceptive and has a lot of fun along the scheme, this might be something you would luxuriate in, although it is not for children.
I guess the kind of send up it is, even of Moby Dick, can be captured by then extinguish title that expresses “gratitude to the Jacques Cousteau Society even though they had nothing to do with the making of the film.” I like this kind of thing. Maybe you do to.
Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums) is sowing some of his more artificial and creative wild oats in his latest, “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.” I mean stop-motion clay engaging sea horses and other assorted sea creatures? As well as a third wall removed position of Zissou’s (Bill Murray) ship in which Anderson films the scenes there as if they were acts in a stage play?
It’s curious, queer…and I’ve got to admit exquisite amazing.
Bill Murray plays Steve Zissou: a Jacques Cousteau sort of Sea Adventurer who, at the film’s beginning, is down on his luck and has objective lost a best friend to a so-called Jaguar Shark. One of the film’s funniest scenes comes advance the beginning when Zissou, in a conference swears to gain even with the shark by finding and murdering it to avenge the death of his friend.
Owen Wilson is also on hand as Ned: a man who claims to be Zissou’s son and once again we have this recurring theme in Anderson’s work about lost, then regained fathers so prevalent in “The Royal Tenenbaums.”
With a film so plump of artifice, snotty-yet-funny wit and the king and queen of deadpan, Murray and Angelica Huston one would deem that all of “The Aquatic Life” would be without an emotional life. But I found this film to have a very deep well of emotion if you are willing to wash down your emotion with vast gulps of remorse and wry humor.
“The Life Aquatic” is a veritable beggar’s banquet for the eyes and the ears (a Brazilian troubadour sings David Bowie songs throughout the film to underscore the drama) and though you sometimes reflect the whole ship is going to go over the edge artistically…it never does. It honest sails along; the course situation for parts unknown and uncharted.

Force of Spoiled is a attractive example of 1940s film noir. Polonsky’s direction is crisp and the pacing perfect throughout. John Garfield turns in an above average performance as Joe Morse, a lawyer turned enabler for mob boss Ben Tucker, who is played by a not entirely convincing Roy Roberts.
Force’s residence turns around the disaster of Tucker and Joe Morse to monopolize “policy” (i.e., the numbers racket) in Original York, and Morse’s pain to support his brother, who runs a small-time numbers bank, from being crushed in the process. It is the brother-to-brother aspect of the status that provides the trusty juice for this noir, with Thomas Gomez turning in a riveting performance as Joe’s brother, Leo Morse. The female lead, Doris Lowry, is played well by Beatrice Pearson, but, in the slay, the character stands to relieve only as a sounding board for Joe as he struggles with what he has done to himself, and to his brother.
Technically, it looks as though Artisan, a perennial purveyor of unpleasant quality dvds, has finally gotten a release lawful. The transfer here is crisp with solid blacks and a serviceable grayscale. The only distinct flaw on the disc can be found in the chapter selections, where the stills for the last two scenes are reversed. The audio is quite acceptable, and the obtain for this work is incrementally more memorable than most. As for features on this dvd, there are none — it’s the film, and honest the film. However, because Artisan must learn to sail before it runs, the absence of special features is forgivable in light of the worry Artisan has finally assign into getting the film apt.

A richly intriguing movie that could back as a bible of film making, “Force of Immoral” succeeds on a number of planes, establishing itself not only as classic noir, but as a reflection of its period. Visually, the compositions are challenging, from the handsome decor gilding the halls of power to the closeup of anxiety that punctuates Bower’s brutal abolish, the rich complexity seldom falters. There are echoes here of Eisenstein, and one can’t assist noticing the presence of Robert Aldrich as Assistant Director, an apprenticeship that would payoff in the visually similar “Kiss Me Deadly”, suggesting that Aldrich served for a time as trustee of the blacklisted Polonsky estate. The script occasionally rises to the level of poetic Blank Verse, and is expertly intoned by John Garfield, Beatrice Pearson, and Thomas Gomez in a sweatily memorable performance. Thematically, Marxist Polonsky and co-scripter Ira Wolfert purchase a shot at the Darwinist world of capital, where huge fish survive by eating smaller fish or by muscling in on the score (Ficco’s strategy), while working class minnows offer up dimes and quarters in hopes of instant metamorphosis. It’s an horrid world where corruption and greed come from top to bottom. Since the Production Code of the time couldn’t leave matters in an unregenerate residence, an upbeat ending is tacked on that defies the logic of what has gone before. Nevertheless, the sharply-etched images remain, vividly – memorably. And it’s ironic that any intended remake will have to deem that the biggest fish of all has taken over the numbers racket and renamed it – the Residence Lottery. I wonder if Polonsky was amused.

The Immense Lebowski is on my top ten list of all time best films. I’ve seen A LOT of films by the design. I don’t need to interpret to anyone why this movie is so sparkling, and why it continues to be a cultural phenomenon. I mention these things first because I don’t want people to feel like I’m giving the film one star. If I could I would give the movie 100 stars. What I’m giving such a unpleasant review for is my distaste for movie studios pumping out special editon dvd’s every few years because they know a film has a substantial following. This current “bowling ball” edition of Lebowski is further proof that Universal has nothing but contempt for the fans of Spacious Lebowski. They wrap it up in a nice spacious package and fabricate it perceive slick, but that’s as far as the creativity goes into supplying anything fresh in terms of extras. Does anyone remember the poor repackage they gave it a few years ago with a towel and coasters? No trusty extras existed, but they mild effect it out as a revamped “deluxe edition”. Well, don’t request considerable more here.
The only current extras to this edition are four very brief featurettes. They feature current interviews with all of the major players (with the exception of the Coen brothers, of course), but they mostly unprejudiced sit around and say stuff like, “It’s a stout film! It’s hilarious! Coen Brothers are geniuses!”. Err, yeah, we know all of that. It also has a featurette that centers around the Lebowski Fest which is vaguely titillating for a few minutes until it turns into the same venerable “Lebowski is substantial!” territory. The featurettes are a snooze fest to say the least.

What really annoyed me with this DVD, though, is that they included the SAME “Making of Expansive Lebowski” documentary that has been on every release of this film! Not only that, it looks as if it was recorded from an stale VHS tape and plastered onto a burly cloak format. It looks infamous, and what’s more, we’ve all seen it before! How many times is Universal going to pump out the same damn extras to the same audience?? It’s an insult to be charged more and more money for the same mediocre extras that were never that pleasurable to launch with. Luckily I was able to rent this and didn’t actually catch it! “The Grand Lebowski” will NEVER have generous extras until the people who created it (the Coen Brothers) are alive to. We want a commentary, a plump length documentary with in-depth interviews, and deleted scenes (and plenty of them!) .
DON’T Acquire THIS EDITION. It’s junk! Simply retain the edition you already have (the very first edition) safely bright that you are not missing anything with any other edition!
Here we are, its Shabas, the Jewish day of rest…white russians in hand, awaiting the special edition of the greatest movie ever made…and what do we collect? A bunch of fig eaters wearing towels on their heads…this is not a respectable adversary.
Compared to the novel DVD release which is at least 5 years obsolete, this so-called special edition offers nothing modern except a peculiar intoduction and some on-set pictures from Jeff Bridges’ archives. Tremendous deal. Hell, this “collector’s edition” doesn’t even offer the teaser trailer and the luxury of both wide-screen and full-screen formats, as the fresh release did. The making-of featurette is the accurate same as before.

Basically, my associate and I have concluded that the Coen brothers have not achieved in the most modest task which was their charge. They have stolen our money and we have no choice but to warn you bums not to be swindled as we were.
Are we to have that for $13.00, all we have paid for is unusual packaging, recent interactive menus, and some bogus special features. Am I also to absorb that Jeff Bridges and the Coen brothers were too busy to even exercise a day recording commentary tracks and drinking some oat sodas? Hardly, dude.
Overall, this DVD did not tie my collection together. Go bowling instead.
My god, sirs, I will not abide this “special edition”.

This note is very reliable, but I would wait for v.1.11 which is on blu-ray and has been extended by approximately 2 minutes. If you’re a hard core fan like me, the wait is worth it.
This review is on the movie; I haven’t bought the DVD yet. Evangelion: 1.01 You Are (Not) Alone is a complete remake of the recent animation, utilizing the latest animation technique to recreate the images. A suited majority of the recent vantage points are preserved in the presentation of the fresh version. Lavish spend of computer graphics gives the world of Evangelion a more realistic and entertaining contemplate. Mechanisms of Tokyo 3 catch on a novel level of complexity and details, and action sequences peep smoother and considerable better executed; these alone are worth the label label.

Two Angels are depicted in this re-animation of Evangelion, and both are given unusual behold and deeper character development. The climax is on the battle with the 2nd Angel, which was Angel #5 in the novel OVA. The animators have obviously dispensed with grand efforts in the re-conceptualization of this Angel and its capabilities. It is not only eye-opening to observe the unusual ideas conjured up by the animators, but also the unusual preparation sequence of Tokyo 3 in combating the Angel. I am simply blissful that the animators worked on the re-animation so seriously. Of course, the only regret I have for this movie is the “panties” scene that the animators also decided to keep from the OVA, because I idea that the animators have finally decided to respect the intelligence of the more veteran audience with all the enhancements and hard work. In the waste, the “panties” scene relegated Evangelion once again to blooming the hormone-raging teenage audience, thereby offending the adults.

I wish I could give this film 10 stars! Watching it for the first time on television last year, I was very moved, and I feel it is the best film about Jesus that has ever been done. The employ of 3-D and 2-D animation was very creative. The 2-D animation was customary for flashbacks or when Jesus was telling stories (such as the parables) which gave a realness to the 3-D characters. Also, the 3-D characters were less distracting than live actors which place more emphasis on the fable and its message.
Based on the book of Luke, it is Biblically factual. The only error I could scrutinize, and very minor, was when during the Parable of the Agreeable Samaritan and one of the people who walked was said to be Sadducee. I recount the writer concept that would more arresting. Of course one always wishes they could have every scene, but realistically the film producers could not include everything and were restricted to 90 min. I do wish they had been able to include Jesus calming the storm, but I am blissful at what the writer COULD include like the Road to Emmaus (not included in any other film I’ve ever seen) . I understand that the writer is a Christian, which shows, by the emphasis on the Resurrection and mention of the Holy Spirit(at Christ’s baptism and Accension) . The writer did exercise parts from the other Gospels as well to complement Luke.
The tale is masterfully done and I like how the characters are developed, especially Mary Magdalene and Tamar (they gave her a name), the Leader of the Synogogue’s 12 year primitive daughter who was raised from the dull. It was trim how they followed the account from a child’s peek conception and the character of Tamar was a thread that helped bring the yarn together. Another theme that was throughout the myth which I really liked, was the understanding of Jesus being the Doorway into Life.

The DVD has some desirable features including a documentary about how the film was made. They prove the microscopic dolls, models, that were made by Russian animators. I judge many of us would like to have the Jesus one! I also liked how the menu has Christian symbols on it, and the cursor that you exercise to rob special features is in the shape of a heinous. Very creative.
I believe this film has had a very vital spiritual impact on many people and it was definitely inspired! The soundtrack is also extraordinary (very though-provoking) and really adds to the movie. Lastly, the best thing about this film is that it makes you want to go read the Bible!! 
I too saw this wonderful interesting film on Easter, 2000 on television. And, I was spell walk! I was really moved by an arresting movie! It was astounding how historically and Biblically good it was. I have reach to inquire of some degree of “artistic license” in any film about Jesus (especially these days) . But Miracle Maker kept such license to a minimum! I was also astounded that an lively movie could rob the feel of Israel at the time of Jesus so very well. The costuming of the characters, the appearance of the buildings, even down to the procedure the Jews typically ate! Finally, in this film Jesus looks Jewish! I found out from the film’s website that the makers of this film actually did a ample amount of research for this film (on archaeology etc.) as well as consulted several Christian theologians to be Biblically apt. The animation to is extraordinary and is very intersting the scheme it shifts between “claymation” and 2D cartoon looking stuff. Very moving. What is best of all though is the producers managed to bag a fantastic understanding of Jesus Himself. They really honored Him and the Gospel accounts (and for that I am really grateful!) . In this film Jesus is compassionate, approachable, considerable, confident, laughs, cries, etc. In other words, He is shown as both human and God! How improbable! How truly improbable! Please watch this improbable film!
